Loughborough Echo

Come and have a look at the cemetery yourself

-

I FEEL I must respond to Coun Bokor’s negative letter in which she is responding to my letter with regards to the damage to some of the grave stones at Loughborough cemetery.

All she has done is quoted a council officers’ words and not addressed any of my concerns.

I am quite aware that Topple Testing has to be carried out, my concern is how it is being carried out.

I personally have worked in the construction business for most of my working life and consequently am aware of health and safety issues.

I don’t want a history lesson in problems of safety in cemetery’s and things that happened years ago

May I point out to her once again that there are five remedial measures drawn up by the council on how to treat grave stones when exercising the topple testing of which I quoted in my letter. Was the contractor that the council employed to do this work given these instructions, and if so was he supervised to make sure he was doing this work correctly.

The councillor in her own words says the work is being carried out in a sensitive and professional way. I don’t think so.

I would like the councillor to have a look at the remedial meas- ures that have been laid down by the council and then have a look at the cemetery for herself to see if she thinks its being kept to a high standard and also note tree branches that have blown down and not been removed for weeks.

If she would like to meet me on site at any time at her convenience I’m quite willing to do so.

Paul Day.
