Five star performanc­e by Quorn Royals over FC Poplar

TWO Leicester and Charnwood Sunday Football League sides sides met in the semi final of the County Premier cup when Finchy’s travelled to Anstey Sports Bar.

Finchy’s are the current leaders of the Premier division and were firm favourites to progress to the final, but Anstey had other ideas and a great performanc­e by the home side earned them a day out at Holmes Park, a James Hicks hat trick and two from Ezra Knight gave them a well-earned 5-3 victory.

Quorn Royals play their semi final next week at Sporting Dynamo and they prepared well with a 5-1 home win against local rivals F.C. Poplar in the Anstey Sports Premier Division.

Birstall Stamford continue their challenge for the top with a 2-0 win away at Iannis, they are now four points behind the leaders with two games in hand.

The semi finals of the Hardings Transport cup saw Birstall Stamford Reserves take on Sileby Athletic and it was the Birstall club that go to the final after two goals each for Adam Parry and Aidan Black plus a goal for Jono Gaydon gave them a 5-2 victory with Dean Copson and Greg Fletcher replying for Sileby.

In the other semi final Long Whatton found themselves 2-0 down at half time against Syston Brookside, in the second half they fought back to 2-1 only to concede again to make it 3-1 to Syston.

A late goal for Long Whatton saw an exciting finish but Syston held on to join Birstall Reserves in the final. Michael Noga, Sam Hill and Joe Swain scoring for Syston with Long Whatton replying through Luke Allard and Oliver Buchanan.

In the Sylvia Haynes Division One, Newboys go to the top after a 4-2 win at home to Spinney Rovers. A goal from Jake Perkins saw the home side go into the half with a slender 1-0 lead.

In the second half two goals from Ryan Charles and one from Alex Austick secured them the points with Cameron Garden and Liam Hardy replying for the Rovers meanwhile Shepshed United found themselves two goals down at F.C. Hathern with goals from Jake Purre and Chris Walker but dug in and levelled it up with goals from Matt Unwin and Kris Pratchett before Matt Unwin secured the points pouncing on a rebound from a penalty.

Goals from Nicki Harvey, Ash Heffer and Charlie Patel gave Burton a 5-1 win over bottom club Kegworth Imperial, Dexter Manley with the Imps consolatio­n.

AFC Sporting Charnwood beat Winchester Phoenix 4-2, two goals from Tom Wilson and goals from Dan Hall and James Biddles ensured they kept their unbeaten record, LK United they found it difficult against second placed Red Cow Rangers and soon found themselves 2-0 behind, a second half penalty from Danny Concannon gave them hope at 2-1 before Red Cow sealed it at 3-1, Red Cows goalscorer­s, Wayne Calver, Sam Panetta and Jake Williams.

Thorpe Acre jump up to fourth spot and into contention for the runners up trophy with a great result at home to Bhudda, Yassine Regrag’s hat trick and a brace from Sam Gee gave them a 5-3 win with Joe Butcher-Smith scoring a hat trick for Bhudda.

Division Three leaders New Parks Rangers continue unbeaten this season in the league with a 9-1 win at Braunstone United, who put up a good fight in the first half with both sides going in level at one all with goals from Kiran Bedder and Jake Tomlinson. In the second half though the division’s leaders stepped it up and four more goals from Jake Tomlinson and goals from Ashley Pegg, Kyle Sylvester, Jordn Wajcik and Chris Moore see New Parks open up a fourpoint lead at the top.

Racing Alleno failed to make ground on the leaders after they went down 5-4 at Thurmaston DPC, Connor Percy’s hat-trick and two from Kane Clarke ensure that Thurmaston themselves stay in touch, Racing’s scorers were Callum Sankey(2), Mitch Barratt and Jason Brackenbri­dge.

Both Ballpark Nirvana and GNG are still in contention after a 7-1 win away at Syston Brookside Reserves for GNG and Ballparks 7-2 win at home to Dishley Rangers, two goals from Reece Kelly and one each for Johny Flores, Ibrahim Kasuji, Billal Mohamed, Nathan Wright and Anwar Mine.

In the J.D. Thomas League cup Anstey Sports Bar Reserves earned themselves a quarter final place with a 6-1 win away at Athletic Sportsman, Gary Warren’s early goal for the home side was eclipsed by a Darren Wheeler hat trick, two from Joe Griffen and a Luke Holyoake strike.
