Steady Steps launched

-

A REJUVENATING exercise programme has been launched with classes in Loughborough, Mountsorrel and Castle Donington.

‘Steady Steps’ is a free postural stability exercise programme launched by Leicester-Shire & Rutland Sport in conjunction with health and care partners across the county.

The 24-week programme tailored to those who have previously fallen or worry about falling and is designed to help improve balance and stability.

Delivered by Level 4 specialised Postural Stability Instructors, the classes are tailored to each individual’s abilities and will progress in difficulty throughout the programme.

People are eligible for the Steady Steps programme if they are aged over 65 or are at risk of falling because of a high fear or falling or poor balance.

Mike Sandys, Director of Public Health for Leicestershire said: “We know that experiencing a fall is one of the major concerns expressed by adults over the age of 65 and that falls can have a significant impact on an individual’s quality of life.

“The Steady Steps courses have been designed to help people improve their health and mobility, but they can also help reduce people’s feelings of social isolation and increase their self-confidence.”

Classes started at Loughborough Leisure Centre from 1.15pm2.15pm on Friday (March 16) and Soar Valley Leisure Centre in Mountsorrel from 2.15pm-3,15pm yesterday (Tuesday, March 20) but a few places are still available if you contact Active Charnwood Alliance on 01509 634673.

A class is also due to start in Castle Donington at Castle Donington Methodist Church in April.
