Studley set for GB international debut at World Half Marathon
LOUGHBOROUGH College athlete Dan Studley is set to make his international debut for Great Britain at the World Half Marathon Championships in Spain.
English National 10k champion Dan earned selection after running a personal best time of 64 minutes at the Mitja Marato de Barcelona in February and will compete over the 13.1 mile distance at the World event in Valencia on Saturday (March 24).
“It’s brilliant to be representing Britain for the first time at senior level and exciting to be racing against the best in the world.
“I’ll be flying out to Spain and will have a few days to prepare. Hopefully it will be another opportunity to run a personal best,” said Dan, who works on the Elite Sport team at Loughborough College as a learning assessor.
“I’m able to bring my personal experience as an athlete to support students in combining their elite sport with studying. And the College has been fantastic in giving me flexibility with my schedule so I can train and compete.
“I’ve stepped up to longer distances and it’s amazing to have been selected for the World Championships. After this it will be back to the track and I’ll be coming out of the winter strong.
“I’m running around 90 to 100 miles each week but apart from the volume, the training going forward is not too dissimilar. The 10,000m at the British Championships in May is my next target.
“You can’t hide with distance running. For me that’s the beauty of it, if you put in the hard work it shows.”
Joining Dan on the British team in Valencia is Charnwood AC’s Gemma Steel.
