It’s time for action and residents to contact their elected representatives
LOUGHBOROUGH Residents – Time for Action
Recent articles in the Echo have covered Leicstershire County Council and Charnwood Borough Council plans to have a 24 hour joint pedestrian and cycle zone and a separate proposal for speed humps and a refuge island, all in and around our town centre High St.
Thankfully, I understand that these unwanted plans have now been scrapped.
They were supposedly to address the issue of poor signage and lack of enforcement of existing vehicle and cycle restrictions within Loughborough.
It is time for residents to contact their elected representatives (MP, county councillor and borough councillors) to address these issues with some commonsense.
Over recent years the Echo letters section has covered many aspects of the poor signage in Loughborough and this has been worsened by the recent completion of the inner relief road and the town centre pedestrianisation.
Traffic flow through the town is poor and I wonder if the sequences at traffic lights, junctions and roundabouts has been reviewed and changed to reflect current traffic flow. The new junction at the A6/Alan Moss Rd is a case in point.
Time to stop sending letters to the Echo and contact your elected repre- sentatives to address these issues. They have the power to act. Their contact details are freely available online, get emailing or surgery visit now.
We need the town signs reviewed, improved, clear and enforced. We need improved traffic flow around the town. This will encourage people to visit the town, enjoy the visit, spend money and help the town to prosper and encourage new businesses into the town.
We do not need pedestrian safety and comfort comprised by speeding quiet cyclists nor speed humps to penalise legitimate users of the roads whilst also causing vehicles to drive at speeds which maximise their pollution and adversely affect air quality.
If you agree – contact your representatives now. Arthur Shaw, Loughborough resident.
