THE LOUGHBOROUGH Town Netball League is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year and to mark the occasion is staging a celebrationary ‘Ruby Ball’ and wants as many former and current players to be part of the event.

The league was formed in 1978 and has grown from an initial one division of seven teams to a league of 34 teams split into four divisions.

It has been based at Loughborough Leisure Centre since it was set up in 1978 with the season running from September until May and now attracts teams from across the Midlands.

Not only are there several teams from Loughborough and Shepshed and other nearby towns, but some teams also travel from Long Eaton, Nottingham and Melt- on Mowbray.

League spokesman Sue Jones said: “The teams are certainly from a widespread area and we have players ranging in ages from teenagers to late 60s.

“We strive to produce an enjoyable, sporting and competitive league for all to enjoy.”

Now to mark the 40-year anniversary, the league is staging a Ruby Ball at Loughborough University on Saturday, June 9 from 7pm until late and the dress code is glitz and glamour!

Sue Jones added: “We hope we will see lots of players past and present at the event. We have had hundreds of players involved in the league over the course of the past 40 years and it would be nice to see old faces again.”

If you would like more information about the ‘Ruby Ball’ and/or to book tickets please call 07989 985401, email ltnl. netball@gmail.com or check the league’s facebook page.
