Impressive young artists

-

THE Shepshed Charnwood Rotary Club’s annual Young Artist competition goes from strength to strength.

This, third year of the competition received entries from five local primary schools including, for the first time, East Leake’s Brookside and Lantern Lane.

These, together with St Winefride’s (Shepshed), Belton and Kegworth submitted a record 249 entries based on the theme “Where I Live”.

The competition is not judged on schools, but on the individual pupil’s entry.

The age range of the award winners was from four to 11 and each one was presented with a certificate and a book token at their school.

Judging this year was undertaken by local art experts experienced in evaluating the work of young artists.

All of the judges were very impressed with the fine work that the pupils had done. The winners in each group were chosen on the composition, imagination and detail in each painting or collage.

Encouraging primary school pupils to use their imagination and produce a variety of works of art is one of the aims of the competition. Getting them involved in looking at their local community is an additional benefit. It allows young people to express in art form what may be difficult for them to say in words.

A big thank you was said to all who have supported this event, especially the schools and local libraries for their enthusiasm and support, without which it would not happen.

The award winners have been on display in Shepshed library, are currently at Kegworth library, and at East Leake library until March 29.
