Shepshed survive early setback to earn draw

TOTAL MOTION MIDLAND FOOTBALL LEAGUE

HAUGHMOND 1 SHEPSHED DYNAMO 1 SHEPSHED started the game slowly and their hosts made them pay, taking the lead with two minutes.

Always on the back foot against a very physical Haughmond side, Shepshed were forced to make an early substitution when Michael Reeves was taken off with a bad ankle injury.

Shepshed began to create chances with Liam Read and Shay Brennan going close to levelling the scores but both teams defences stood firm as the score remained 1-0 to Haughmond at the break.

After the break, Shepshed drew level on 48 minutes, with a great individual goal by Liam Read who weaved his magic around the Haughmond defence and struck a great shot into the net.

The hosts hit back and Shepshed were under pressure from Haughmond’s long throws and three times the Shepshed keeper was in trouble but his defence cleared the danger away.

Both teams created chances but the shots and headers they had did not cause the defences any problems then out the blue a curling shot from Griffiths brought the best out of Shepshed keeper Denham Hinds who sprung across his box and tipped the ball round the post.

The last action of the match saw Haughmond reduced to 10 men in the 90th minute when Rodgers got a second yellow and the teams had to settle for a share of the spoils in a game both teams could have won.

This weekend, Shepshed will travel to face Bromsgrove Sporting on Saturday and then play host to Rocester on Bank Holiday Monday.
