Never designed to take this much traffic

-

I READ with interest your article on the dangerous road campaign launched by Meghann Flook and applaud her attempts to improve the safety of our roads in Shepshed.

I would, however, like to point out that the offending roads to the schools have always been a danger even back to when my children went there 30 years ago.

The streets in Shepshed were never designed to take the present volume of traffic and without a ridiculous mass demolition of houses will never improve.

A one-way system on Loughborough Road/Forest Street would mean that traffic not facing on coming vehicles would just go faster.

This is a town that has seen new estates being built at an alarming rate, with absolutely no thought for any new road infrastructure.

More than 1,000 homes due to be built bringing more people to drive more children to the schools.

For the new arrivals to the town there will be no choice but to drive on already congested routes along Charnwood Road. Leicester Road and Hathern Road in order to get to there place of work etc.

Ashby Road of course is another matter entirely, do not get me start- ed on that one.

The mania for building more and more houses has outweighed any thoughts for the existing residents of this town and those responsible will have to take the blame for any casualties on our roads.

Well done to Meghann for her campaign but I fear the might of the developers will only make the situation worse in the years to come. N Sketchley. Leicester Road, Shepshed.
