Cheers to a special brew...
THE Old Sawley Brewing Company welcomed an enthusiastic group of friends and regulars at the Needle and Pin micropub in Loughborough, who had been handpicked by the landlord, Sean O’Neill, to attend a brew experience day.
The group have supporting the pub since it opened its doors two years ago and have picked up a passion for real ale in that time.
Over the course of the day, the group received professional tuition in the brewing process, before designing the beer they wanted to create.
In the brewery they participated in every stage – from mashing in to leaving the new beer to ferment at the end of the day. They got a taste for every element of the brewery’s operation, including cleaning casks, monitoring temperature and gravity and even coming up with the name and design of a pump clip for their ale.
Head brewer Roo Stone said: “They have created a light pale ale, with an ABV of four per cent. When it is ready, it will be going on sale at the Needle and Pin and we will also have a number of casks available direct from the Old Sawley Brewing Company.”
The name of the beer and it’s novel logo is a closely guarded secret for the time being. It will be revealed at a launch event at the Needle and Pin in mid-April.
Old Sawley Brewing Company’s Brew Experience Days are suitable for groups of four-eight people.
