League programme decimated again by the weather

WITH the weekend fixtures once again decimated by the weather only five games went ahead.

In the Anstey Sports Bar Premier Division, the sides competing for the top spot met and the long-time leaders Finchy’s were replaced at the top by Birstall Stamford who won a well contested game 3-1.

It was 1-1 at half time with Finchy’s goal coming from Ricky Bates, but Birstall were eventual winners with their goals coming from Aaron Headley and two from Adam Parry.

In the Sylvia Haynes Division One Sileby Athletic took full advantage of other teams postponeme­nts with a 10-3 win against Leicester Bharat to jump into top spot, four goals from Joe Hetterley with the remaining goals shared out to Adam Boulter, Matt Doherty, Jonny Greaman, Jake Rimmington, Liam Winnett and Shaun Wilkes. Shepshed United entertaine­d Kegworth Imperial, this game was played on a heavy pitch but both teams adapted to the conditions. Shepshed raced into a four goal lead in the first 15 minutes. Kegworth pulled one back through Tom Henson, Shepshed then scored again after a good move down the right wing. Kegworth attacked and were awarded a penalty when Tom Henson was felled in the box. Leo Ricci scoring from the resulting penalty to make it 5-2 at the break. The second half saw early pressure from Shepshed but failed to make the pressure tell. After 25 minutes Shepshed scored two quick goals to make 7-2. Kegworth never gave up and after several Shepshed substitute­s Kegworth scored two quick goals through Nial Harrison and Martin Murphy. Kegworth piled on the pressure but time ran out and it finished 7-4 to Shepshed. Two goals each from Shepshed’s Dean Pell and James Stock with their other goals scored by Charlie Dunkin, River Hardy and Matt Unwin to take them into second.

Syston Brookside were 5-2 victors over Spinney rovers with goals from Jack Hill, Thomas Reeve, Joe Swain, Ford Taylor and substitute Ryan Carter with Chris Bownes and Liam Hardey replying for Spinney.

No other league games went ahead, but Ballpark Nirvana progressed to the next round of the Gayford Carrott Invitation­al trophy with a 3-0 win at Greenhill Sparrows, it was goalless at the break but two goals from Zayd Dhorat and one from Anwar Mine put the Leicester club into the last eight.
