Tennis club to unveil upgraded facilities

-

CHARNWOOD Lawn Tennis Club, based at Nanpantan Sports Ground, has recently undertaken a major project to upgrade its playing facilities and will be staging an official opening this weekend.

In partnership with Charnwood Borough Council, Sport England and the Lawn Tennis Association, three tarmac courts have been replaced with the latest all-weather artificial clay surface, deemed by coaches to be the very best surface to learn the game.

New environmentally-friendly floodlights have been installed for these courts and the existing floodlights on a further four artificial grass courts replaced.

In addition to the fencing being replaced last year, the final work to be completed is the replacement of a further tarmac court.

The official opening of new tennis courts and floodlights on Sunday (April 8) will be performed by Leicestershire-born Mark Cox, who was a leading tennis player in the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s, performing in Grand Slam events and for the Great Britain Davis Cup team.

President of the club John Newton said: “By prudent financial management and great teamwork, we have created fantastic tennis facilities reflecting our intention to provide the broadest tennis offering at junior, senior, female, male and veteran groups in the county.”
