No consultation meetings with the market traders

-

A REPLY to Coun Bokor’s comments about our market.

There has been no consultation meetings with the traders what’s so ever as I am on the trader’s committee l should know.

Regarding the £40,000 that Charnwood Borough Council are investing in the market is a ridiculous pathetic amount considering over the past five years the council have received in stall rent - over million pounds.

Coun Bokor also stated that all markets are suffering a down turn in trade. Coun Bokor is wrong. Those council managed markets that have invested substantial amounts in their markets are now reaping the benefits

The stalls that we hire from the council are in need of repair or replacement. We have been told that there is a maintenance programme in place. It is a figment of their imagination

On Saturday March 31 some traders came and went home because the stalls were in such a bad state they could not operate from them because of fear of losing stock due to bad weather.

Regarding Charnwood Borough Council “open door policy” come down to the market and talk to the traders who contribute to the borough council offers.

I would advise Coun Bokor to come and talk to the traders on both days then you will learn the true state of the market. Yes we did win open market of the year - that’s was down to the traders not the councillors

It would appear that the only interest that the BID has is the shops in the town centre. Just to remind the consultant stated the market is the jewel in the town.

Just to add one more point regarding fines for late payment of rent. If you are a day late we receive a fine of £35. Does the same apply to the borough council when they are late with credits like 7 to 10 days late? Tony Simons
