Clare’s marathon for Epilepsy Action
LOUGHBOROUGH woman Clare Pinchess ran the Virgin Money London Marathon to raise vital funds for national charity Epilepsy Action.
Clare, whose father has epilepsy, braved record temperatures to complete the iconic 26.2 mile route in five hours 25 minutes.
So far, Clare, 42, has raised more than £2,600 to help over 600,000 people living with epilepsy in the UK.
Epilepsy Action had 30 runners cross the finish line this year.
“I’m thrilled to have run the London Marathon for Epilepsy Action,” said Clare.
“It has been a mental challenge and the weather made it very tough.
“But knowing I was running for such a fantastic cause really helped me focus on reaching the finish.
“The crowds cheering me on were brilliant and I’m so proud to have raised the money for a charity close to my family’s heart. Epilepsy Action provides support for those living with epilepsy.
“One day, I would love to see a cure, but in the meantime I’d like to raise some extra cash for a charity which will continue to support those affected by this hidden disability. People like my dad.”
Xanthe Hopkinson, fund-raising events officer at Epilepsy Action, said: “Congratulations to Clare on such a fantastic achievement. To have trained so hard during the long winter months and then cross the finish line of the hottest London Marathon ever is even more incredible.”
