Tributes paid to fund-raiser

-

TRIBUTES are being paid to Rosemary Williams, a well know charity fundraiser of Cleveland Road, Loughborough, who passed away on April 21, aged 84.

She had appeared in the Echo many times, alongside her late husband Alan, due to the thousands of pounds that they raised over the years for various charities and for which they received many letters of thanks.

One of the ways that they raised money was through organising dances which brought together lots of new long and loyal friends across the community.

They loved to dance and a tea dance much loved by Rosemary, Alan and others continues to run in Shepshed after more than 20 years.

Rosemary obtained a certificate in physical activities for the disabled. Through the years she supported the Leicestershire Association for the Disabled, organising holidays and special events.

Rosemary received an Echo New Years Honour for her fund-raising and support to the community.

Rosemary was a life member of the Oddfellows society (A friendship group where you can make new friends and attend social events). She again supported fundraising and organised

events, gaining a special award from the society.

The fund-raising stopped when her husband Alan sadly suffered a severe stroke that left him housebound and Rosemary became his carer.

Rosemary suffered a severe stroke herself in 2015 at the same time that her husband Alan sadly passed away. Both were supported by family and the special carers Caremark.

Rosemary was an inspiration to everyone when she fought against the odds to walk again and despite her loss always wore a special smile.

Despite her stroke Rosemary continued to support charities and be an inspiration to others.

One of her favourite

places and charities after suffering her stroke was the Shuttlewood Clarke Foundation at Ulverscroft, a charity that exists to provide activities, education, wellbeing services and advice to those that need it most.

She also loved Club2015 run by the Shepshed Care company on a Thursday.

Rosemary was married for 62 years and appeared in the Echo when Alan and Rosemary received a telegram from the Queen on their 60th wedding anniversary.

They had two girls (Lorraine and Alana) three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Rosemary will be sadly missed by her family and friends and within the community.
