Birstall Stamford close to title

-

BIRSTALL Stamford continued their march towards the Anstey Sports Bar Premier Division championship with a narrow 4-3 win over bottom side Iannis, two goals from Iannis’s Knuta Stefan and one from Dorel Nitu weren’t enough for the home side to gain any points as Ash Aikens, Brett Marvin, Andrew Newitt and James Pearce puts Birstall five point clear of second place Finchy’s.

Sileby Athletic stay in second place of the Sylvia Haynes Division One after a 7-2 victory over Spinney Rovers, a hat trick for Adam Brind assisted by strikes from Dean Copson, Joe Hetterley, Jacob McEnery and Jake Rimmington put them 11 points clear of Long Whatton who are the only side who can catch them and leaders Birstall Stamford Reserves with six games left to play. Shepshed United go up to third with a resounding 6-0 win at Kibworth Imperial, a James Stock hattrick, two goals for Reece Allen and one for River Hardy making up their total.

Birstall Stamford A still need a point to secure runners up spot in the A.B. Wallace Division Two after their narrow 4-3 win away at LK United.

LK started by mixing up the squad and still fielding a very strong side who were playing some delightful football and at one point were leading 3-1 through Kieran Thomson-Ford and a brace from Mark Foster.

LK had chances of going four up but the Birstall keeper was in outstanding form pulling off some exceptional saves. But great credit to Birstall who reduced the arrears with a penalty and finished off the game in the last 10 minutes, with their goals coming from Jamie Aikens (2), Lee Armstrong and Harry Cotter.

Even though they beat Winchester Phoenix 6-2, Bhudda lost out on a top two finish, while bottom club Athletic Sportsman had a great 7-0 win at home to Thorpe Acre.

Champions elect AFC Sporting Charnwood finished their season with a win and almost all of Red Cows chances of finishing in second place with a 2-1 win away at Western Park, an Aaron Mumford goal and an opposition own goal giving them the win with Red Cow’s goal scored by Jack Goodall.

With a vastly superior goal difference New Parks Rangers need just one point from their remaining two games after their demolition of Braunstone United.

Racing Alleno kept their slim chances of overtaking New Parks with a win over GNG Sunday and Verdon Athletic currently lay in the runners up spot after a 4-2 win at home to Ballpark Nirvana.

In the local derby Loughborough Stags and Dishley Rangers met with neither side having much to play for apart from bragging rights in the pub afterwards, and it was Dishley who earned that right with a 2-0 victory.
