TWO charities have shared more than £12,000, which has been raised by the Mayor of Charnwood, Coun Pauline Ranson during her year of office.

The money was recently handed over to Loughborough Wellbeing Café and MyAware, a national charity supporting people living with myasthenia, a group of rare neuromuscular diseases characterised by fluctuating and sometimes fatal muscle weakness.

Coun Ranson said: “I would like to thank everyone who has supported my chosen charities and helped raise such a fantastic amount of money for two deserving causes.

“People’s generosity and kindness has been truly overwhelming. The Wellbeing Café does a lot of good work for the people of Charnwood and I know they appreciate this donation.

“Myaware is a cause close to my heart and again they do lots of great work to support people who need it and I am delighted to have been able to give them such a fantastic donation.

“I wish both causes all the best for the future.”

Coun Ranson chose to help Myaware, as her husband Trevor, who was also her consort, for the year was diagnosed with myasthenia gravis five years ago.

The Wellbeing Café is for adults who experience mental health problems. The café provides regular activities such as yoga, mindfulness and arts and crafts.

The mayor raised a total of £12,621 with donations coming from a number of people and organisations across the borough.
