BREAKFAST is the most important meal of the day, so it is crucial you get it right. From traditiona­l fry-ups to more sophistica­ted brekkies, there are plenty to choose from. Whether you’re setting yourself up for the weekend or nursing a hangover, we’ve found the best places in the East Midlands.

HUNGRY PUMPKIN

Nottingham’s Hungry Pumpkin prides itself on serving exactly what you want, so if you cannot see what you like, they will make it for you. BILL’S

Bill’s is a firm favourite with fans of breakfast and brunch. The Nottingham eatery’s menu has lots of choice – from healthy healthy coconut porridge with berry compote and candied pistachios to something more indulgent, such as the vegetarian breakfast. CAFE SOBAR

Cafe Sobar is an alcohol-free restaurant, which gives all profits to the Nottingham-based drug and alcohol recovery charity Double Impact. For just under £10, its Big Breakfast is a real treat. Your plate will be piled high with bacon, sausages, eggs, black pudding, hash browns, mushrooms, plum tomatoes, baked beans and toast on the side. DOS HERMANOS

If you’re after a breakfast in a 1940s-style Cuban bar, then you could try Dos Hermanos in Leicester, where breakfast and brunch is served from 10am until 3pm. Try something different – a Swiss rosti topped with with bacon, sausage or egg – for under a fiver. Or build your own classic full English for £7.95. JONES’ CAFE BISTRO

If you are hungry, brave or a bit of both, you could visit Jones’ Cafe Bistro in Leicester and try the Jones 666 challenge. This devilish delight consists of six pancakes, six rashers of bacon, six sausages, six eggs, six hash browns and six slices toast. If you can finish in 30 minutes, the meal is free. Derby’s Lisa Jean at Bennetts Brasserie is less greasy spoon and more insta-food envy. At Bean in Derby, locally and freshly-prepared meals are its stock in trade. Enjoy a breakfast from the health kick section of the menu if you’re watching your weight.
