SHEPSHED Special Community Bus (SSCB) has been given a £3,000 boost by Shepshed Town Council.

The grant will be put towards the SSCB’s £20,000 fund-raising appeal to purchase a replacement bus.

Co-ordinator Alison Sharp said: “This grant of £3,000 from Shepshed Town Council will be very helpful in assisting us to reach our current goal which is to replace our very tired and weary MPV.

“Our organisation exists to serve our community and build a better tomorrow for all our clients by being able to transport then to daily activities, shopping, lunch clubs and days out - things which some of us so easily take for granted.”

The community bus started started back in 1985 where representatives from caring organisations and potential user groups unanimously endorsed the view that a community bus was a vital need for Shepshed.

Alison said for some passengers the service is a lifeline for so many passengers that would normally feel isolated and lonely.

“The Community Bus also offers shopping trips to Morrisons, Shepshed Co-op, Loughborough Market and always open to any other places the community would like to visit.”

The Special Community Bus has now launched a monthly cash draw in a bid to boost funds for the new bus. Anybody can be a member of it, the cost is £12 per year and the plan is to stage the first draw in August.

If you would like to be involved in the cash draw or help the community bus in any way, you can contact the Shepshed Special Community Bus based at the Town Council Building, 47a Charnwood Road 8.30am until 12.30pm daily or phone 01509 650531.
