Golf club opens new entrance area

-

AFTER more than 100 years Rothley Park Golf Club has a new entrance thanks to the efforts of a group of members and the generosity of local businesses.

With the assistance of local planning consultant Will Antill, planning permission was granted to improve the lighting to the car park, build a storage facility and to construct a new stone entrance wall, faced in locally quarried stone, together with illuminated signage.

Whilst the former two items were completed in earlier years, the creation of the new entrance was delayed whilst golf course works, including a new irrigation system, extensive tree planting, creation of new bunkering, drainage work and improvements to tees and greens, took priority.

At the beginning of 2017 a group of members led by John Stockill decided to seek support from within and outside the club to enable the outstanding work to go ahead.

Thanks to the generosity of local companies including MQP Cliff Hill & Groby Quarry, Jelsons, Newline, William Hercock and Walter Miles Electrical donating materials/services and the craftsmanship of local stonemason, Don Hollingsworth, the work on the entrance wall commenced in the late summer of 2017 and was completed earlier this year at a fraction of the original estimated cost.

It was officially opened by the Mayor of Charnwood, Coun Pauline Ranson, who cut the tape with the assistance of some of the longest-serving members of the club.

The ceremony was followed by a reception held in the club house for all who attended.
