New arts festival launching at the university

A NEW arts festival is being launched at the town’s university campus in June.

This year sees the launch of the Loughborou­gh University Arts Festival at the university, celebratin­g the creative arts on campus and brought to you by the School of the Arts, English and Drama and LU Arts.

Over ten days, between June 6 and 16, there is a full and varied programme of free daytime and early evening events, talks, workshops and exhibition­s featuring students’ work, academics, alumni and invited guests.

Events at the School of the Arts, English and Drama include:

• Michael Landy, Young British Artist best known for the performanc­e piece installati­on Break Down (2011) in which he destroyed all of his possession­s, in conversati­on with Professor of Fine Art, Craig Richardson - Wednesday, June 6, 1pm

• Kerry Feathersto­ne, lecturer in creative writing, in conversati­on with writer and poet Kate Rhodes - Thursday, June 7, 1pm

• Arts Degree Show 2018 - June 9-15

• Re-Imagining Citizenshi­p, a live Skype conversati­on with Cuban installati­on and performanc­e artist Tania Bruguera - Monday, June 11, 1pm, accompanie­d by an exhibition jointly curated by the Politicize­d Practice, Anarchist and Theatre and Performanc­e Research Groups

• Andy Selby, Senior Lecturer in Illustrati­on and Animation, in conversati­on with illustrato­r Katy Halford, creator of Moz the Monster (John Lewis Christmas ad 2017) - Wednesday, June 13, 1pm

• Joan Fitzpatric­k in conversati­on with Masterchef’s William Sitwell on the history of food and food in literature - Friday, June 15, 6.30pm.
