Quorn kickstart their season with six wicket victory

-

QUORN kickstarted their hitherto winless season, with a comprehensive six wicket victory over Mountsorrel.

Under cloudy skies and with a used wicket, Quorn vice captain Richard Cooper, won the toss and unsurprisingly inserted the visitors. Ross Errington (2-21), making his first appearance of the season, had an immediate impact, bowling Nadeem Bhatti with his first ball, for a duck. After a brief, aggressive innings, Errington yorked Shiyan (12), to leave MountSorrel 20-2, after eight overs.

Mohideen (11) and Nirfan (38), got their heads down and against some tight bowling from Steve Maddocks (2-29), steadily taking the score to 51-2, at the 17 over mark.

The introduction of Harish Kumar to the attack reaped immediate rewards as he bowled Mohideen, although the Quorn fielders twice put down Nirfan, as he started to play some dominant shots.

However, Kumar continued to bowl straight and on a nagging length which paid dividends as Mountsorrel fell to 64-6. Maddocks then took the crucial wicket, as Nirfan holed out to Jon Reynolds at mid off and despite a few lusty blows from Isran (19), Kumar finished off the innings, taking 5-30 as MountSorrel were dismissed for 93.

After tea, Mountsorrel opening bowler, Sam Martin (2-24) shook up the Quorn top order, removing Richard Sharp with a spitting delivery for a duck. Rozeen Khaleek (1-11), removed Tom Errington with an almost identical delivery as Quorn slumped to 5-2. Will Huish (19) played some typically aggressive shots before missing a straight one from Martin and when Wahaj (1-11) snared Kumar LBW, Quorn had fallen to 35-4, but fears of a Quorn batting collapse were allayed by the Cooper brothers, who batted diligently and watchfully against the Mountsorrel spin bowlers.

The unbeaten fifth wicket partnership of 61 by the Coopers, saw Quorn home with 20 overs to spare. Fittingly, both Richard and Chris ended 31 not out.

This victory sees Quorn leapfrog their opponents in Division 4C, Hopefully giving them confidence for their visit to Barrow Town next Saturday, especially as Barrow could still be reeling from their 196 run defeat by Maher Stars.
