EATING lots of potatoes, rice and pasta helps lose weight faster than counting calories alone, a study found.

Those looking to shed the pounds can fill up quicker on less “energy-dense” foods so they have fewer cravings for snacks and junk food.

Fresh fruit, vegetables, lean meat, fish, eggs and pulses have the same effect. They typically have fewer calories than processed foods.

Study leader Dr Nicola Buckland, from Leeds University, said: “A lot of people give up on diets because they feel hungry between meals. Our research shows eating low-density foods helps.”

Thirty-seven overweight women who ate low energy density food for 14 weeks lost an average 12lbs 13oz.

LONDONERS are most likely to share photos of their food on social media than Brits from any other region, new research shows. One in five admitted to posting “food porn” selfies, followed by people in the Midlands at 16%, Wales at 12% and the South-east at 10%.

UK OFFICE workers spend an alarmingly limited amount of time outdoors each day, putting their health and wellbeing at risk. The study of 1,000 UK office workers found that almost 40% spend a maximum of just 15 minutes outside.

This is even less than prisoners, who require “at least one hour of suitable exercise in the open air daily”, according to UN guidelines.
