Summer fun the weather can’t spoil
I T’S hard to believe, but June has arrived. And, along with the sun, the heat and the ensuing rain, it also heralds the arrival of some exciting new titles. There’s a new tennis game to get us in the mood for Wimbledon, The New Colossus arrives on the Switch and after numerous delays, and, fingers crossed, Crackdown 3 looks like it’s finally going to land at the end of the month.
TENNIS WORLD TOUR PS4, XBOX ONE, Switch, PC, iOS RELEASE: June 1
WITH Wimbledon just weeks away, the release of this game couldn’t have been better timed.
Tennis World Tour is the spiritual successor to Top Spin 4, widely considered the best tennis game ever made, so developers Breakpoint Studios – made up of former Top Spin designers – have really been under some pressure.
Early reviews seem to suggest some problems, especially as the online multiplayer has been removed from the launch build of the game, to be added at a later date.
Writing on the game’s Facebook page a spokesman said: “Features are scheduled to roll out in two phases.”
“The first will bring online quick matches and in the second phase we will implement a ranked online mode with global leaderboards.”
CRASH BANDICOOT N.SANE TRILOGY XBOX ONE, Switch, PC RELEASE: June 29
AFTER taking the PS4 by storm, Crash Bandicoot is bringing his N.Sane Trilogy to others consoles.
Crash’s enduring popularity sees the remastered Bandicoot spinning, jumping and whumping his way through his first three games.
One for older gamers, the bright, cartooney graphics belie just how tricky this game can be – but that only adds to the fun.
A couple of nice little extras, the addition of an online leaderboard and a Cloud saving-feature, bring the games up to date.
And those lovely people at Vicarious Visions have slipped a few helping hands into the mix in the form of power ups and checkpoints – absolute lifelines for beginners and those of us who are a little rusty.
YONDER: THE CLOUD CATCHER CHRONICLES Switch RELEASE: June 15
YONDER shipwrecks players on a vast island enshrouded in an evil murk.
By exploring the land, joining forces with the locals and contributing to the community through farming, crafting, cooking, fishing and brewing, adventurers can help the island.
Now exploration games have been around forever, and they can wear a little thin.
Yonder claims to have put its own ‘unique’ spin on the genre – there’s no combat system or a progression system in this game.
Instead, the action takes place in a genuinely open-world environment where players can do anything they want, whenever they want.
Actually sounds quite relaxing.
WOLFENSTEIN II: THE NEW COLOSSUS Switch RELEASE: June 29
ONE of my stand out games of 2017, Switch players will finally get to go Nazi hunting at the end of the month.
Offering a very different take on historical events, The New Colossus takes place in a Nazi occupied New York in 1961.
Playing as war veteran William “B.J.” Blazkowicz, you and your ragtag bunch of resistance fighter scan kickstart the second American revolution and give Hitler’s armies their marching orders.
It’s dystopian vision is beautifully brought to life – goosestepping hordes cut a chilling swath through cheering crowds.
Glorious graphics, visceral gameplay and a compelling storyline combine to make a must play title.
CRACKDOWN 3 XBOX ONE RELEASE: June 30
FINGERS crossed Crackdown 3 will finally get an airing this month as it’s already been delayed since 2016.
The first two Crackdowns were insanely good fun, and this threequel sounds no different.
As a super-cop in an open-world city, you fight crime and smash up the environment in the process – delightful, mindless fun.
And you don’t have to share that fun alone,as the game supports online co-op for up to four players.
The icing on the cake though is the addition of Terry Crews as a playable character.
