Scout group issue urgent plea for extra volunteers
‘Without them we simply would not be able to run’
A POPULAR Shepshed Scout group has issued an urgent appeal for new volunteers.
The 4th Shepshed has been running for more than 75 years providing Scouting to both girls and boys from the age of sixyears-old to 18-years-old.
Its Group Scout Leader (GSL) Sue Bird has stepped down from the role to concentrate on the role of treasurer and the role of GSL has been taken over by Georgie Budding who had been the Cub Scout leader.
Georgie said: ”We offer all the “usual” things you would expect from a Scout group - hikes, camps, orienteering, etc - as well as bringing in more modern skills such as community projects - the group recently collected food items for the Shepshed food bank as part of its Global Awareness work.”
But Georgie revealed the changes to different roles highlighted the need for additional help to keep the group running effectively.
“The group is made up of many different roles, some of them more intense than others and it is through the very hard work of all the current Leaders and helpers that the group has continued to grow - without them we simply would not be able to run.
“However we are unable to fulfil all the roles going so we are looking for people who may be interested in helping out in some form or other.
“We need to fill the positions on the executive team of chair person and secretary to help with the background work that keeps the group together, as well as occasional helpers and sectional assistants across the sections, especially the Beavers who are currently struggling.
“If you think you might be able to help in some way, we have a role to fit regardless of how much time you may or may not have spare and it doesn’t matter if you have a young person involved with the group or not.
