Newtown Linford edged out by Division One newcomers Loughborough Carillon

-

NEWTOWN Linford failed to capitalise on Cropston’s first defeat of the season by also falling to their first defeat at the hands of Loughborough Carillon.

It was Loughborough Carillon who won the toss and elected to bat and it looked like they would live to rue the decision when both openers Sam Clarke and Mayur Keshwala were sent back to the pavilion without scoring and they were left reeling at 1-2.

But the innings was rescued by Mark Trimngham and Pallav Patel who made 118 for the third wicket, with Trimingham scoring 61 and Patel 51.

Carillon closed their innings on 245-6 from their 45 overs.

Jon Dale was the pick of the Newtown bowlers taking 3-71.

In reply Newtown Linford made an indifferent start with none of the top order batsmen able to carve out a healthy score.

It was Dave Woods batting at number six who took the game to Carillon, hitting an unbeaten 74, but it was not enough as Newtown Linford closed their innings on 196-8, slipping to a 49 run defeat.

They are now second place in the Division One table, two points behind Cropston.

They will be hoping to bounce back at the weekend when they entertain Oakham while neighbours Cropston travel to Earl Shilton.
