A PRACTICALLY PERFECT PAD

Actress Julie Andrews and her film-director husband Blake Edwards were the toast of the town during the early 1970s after the pair relocated to London from the US.

Julie was still basking in the glory of film triumphs – the Sound of Music and Mary Poppins – while Blake was already working on his second Pink Panther comedy movie, starring Peter Sellers.

Their home, while they lived in the UK, was on Chester Square in London’s Belgravia, where famous visitors included actors Omar Sharif and Herbert Lom.

Julie Andrews’ former home, which is almost next door to a similar mansion owned by Margaret Thatcher prior to her death in 2013, is now on the market for £24m.

Other former notable residents of the square, which is said to be one of the finest in central London, include Roman Abramovich, Mick Jagger, Nigella Lawson and Yehudi Menuhin.

Julie’s old house was recently bought by an upmarket developer and upgraded throughout.

This includes the addition of a lift, 14-seat formal dining room, a designer kitchen, cinema and a spa.

The six-bedroom mansion, which has a linked mews house at the rear and a garage, has also had its outside spaces upgraded, which now offer a large balcony and three terraces including a rooftop BBQ.

“Chester Square’s elegant stuccoed houses are amongst the most exclusive and sought after addresses in prime central London,” says Becky Fatemi, managing director of agent rokstone.com
