THIS year’s ‘ Race for Life’ in Lough­bor­ough has been hailed a fan­tas­tic suc­cess with or­gan­is­ers re­veal­ing that the event is es­ti­mated to have raised £44,000 for Can­cer Re­search UK.

The 5km event took place on Sun­day (June 10) set­ting off from the Mar­ket Place, leav­ing the town cen­tre and go­ing through Queen’s Park be­fore fin­ish­ing back in the Mar­ket Place.

Lough­bor­ough folk turned out in force to of­fer their sup­port to the com­peti­tors adding to the great at­mos­phere of the event as the town turned into a sea of pink with the hun­dreds of peo­ple tak­ing part in the ever pop­u­lar fund-raiser.

A spokesman for the Race For Life or­gan­is­ing team said: “There were more than 800 ladies that crossed the fin­ish line and we are looking to raise a mas­sive £44,000 from the event.

“It was a fan­tas­tic day, with amaz­ing weather and great at­mos­phere at the fin­ish line.”
