Jane Tindle 01509 414201 Jane.Tindle@outlook.com BISHOP BEVERIDGE CLUB NEWS. The next `Beetles game’ will take place today, Wednesday, June 13 at 2.45pm. Cost just £2 members, £2.50 nonmembers, which includes tea or coffee and cake. This is a great fun afternoon and everyone is welcome.

On June 20 we are having our monthly `Bingo’ session. Starting a t2.30pm the cost for members is £2.00 , visitors £2.50.

The next Monday Movie will be on 25 June starting at 2pm. The film `Breathe’. The inspiring true love story of Robin and Diana Cavendish, an adventurou­s couple who refuse to give up in the face of a devastatin­g disease. Their heart-warming celebratio­n of human possibilit­y marks the directoria­l debut of Andy Serkis.

Cost to members is £4.00, visitors £ 4.50, doors open at 1.30pm and cost includes tea and cake. All Welcome.

The July trip will be to Cromford Mill in the Peak District and a two hour canal trip afterwards.This takes place on Tuesday, July 17, for details contact Wendy Woodhouse 01509 413212, or check the posters and book on the form in the Club. Cost is £26.00 members, £28 for non-members and includes the Arkwright Experience with Mill Tour and canal cruise. There are places to eat and some retail areas.

On Wednesday July 4, in the afternoon, we are having a group guided visit at Goadby Marwood Hall Gardens, nr Melton, with refreshmen­ts. This is not a coach trip so you will need to make your own travel arrangemen­ts, or ask if a lift is offered.

The cost will be £10 which includes tea and cake, just £ 7.00 without the refreshmen­ts. For details call Joyce on 414519.

We have a small number of tickets for the Curve Christmas production by Irving Berlin ` White Christmas’, which will be on Wednesday 9 January 2019 for a matinee performanc­e. Ticket price is £ 29.50 for a balcony/circle seat, but if we sell 10 or more this is reduced to £24.50. Every week the Thursday Coffee Morning takes place between 9.45 – 11am and everyone is welcome to attend.

For 50p you get tea or coffee and biscuits and for 80p, either a cappuccino, latte or hot chocolate. We are at 22 South Street, so come for a drink then catch the bus outside to Loughborou­gh for the Market! Why not visit us and find out what we offer for the over 60s in our village.

Many of our activities are open to all and membership not required with just a little extra payment for such things as outings etc.

BARROW REMEMBERS. In July, as part of Barrow Remembers 1918 -2018, wreaths will be placed on the graves of four soldiers in cemeteries in Belgium.

If any relatives of Pt Frederick James Pepper, Pt James Bott, Pt George William Lovett, Capt Oswald Henry Fieldon wishes to send a personal message or card to be placed on the grave with the wreath, please would they contact the Parish Office, tel. 01509 416016.

SILVER SPORTS AT THE BAPTIST CHURCH. Join us for table tennis, carpet bowls and other indoor games every Friday from 10am – 12 noon in the Gap. This group runs during term time and most school holidays and is for the over 50s.

BOSCAPS. The scheme will run from Monday 6 August to 10 August 9.30am – 12.30pm at Humphrey Perkins School. There will also be trips to, Jump Giants (6 August) Ice Skating (8 August) and Skegness (13 August) dance and sport workshops will be available Tuesday and Thursday afternoon (7 and 9 August). WOMEN’S INSTITUTE. Barrow WI is meeting on Wednesday, 13 June at 7:30pm in the Conservati­ve Club function room. Tom Phillips will be speaking about piping.

LADIES CIRCLE. The Barrow ladies Circle is meeting on Wednesday, 13 June at 7:30pm at the Methodist church.

MALE VOICE CHOIR CONCERT. On Friday, June 15, at 7.30pm in Holy Trinity Church, Barrow upon Soar there will be a concert by Loughborou­gh Male Voice Choir with their guests, the Romsey Male Voice Choir from Hampshire. Tickets on the door £6 adults, £2 children.

RHYME TIME. On Friday, June 15, Barrow Community Library have Rhyme Time for 3s and under from the 10:30am – 11am. £1 donation suggested. Refreshmen­ts available.

GET CRAFTY. On Friday, June 15 Get Crafty at Barrow Community Library between 1:30pm – 3pm. A weekly group for knitters, stitchers, crocheteer­s and other crafters of all ability levels. £1 donation suggested towards library funds. Refreshmen­ts available.

JUMBLE SALE. The clock club is having a jumble sale on Saturday, June 16, at the Bishop Beveridge club from 10am – 11.30am. This is raising money for Anne Wilson’s daughter for her guiding. Any donations, especially tombola, please bring on the day, take to 78 Beaumont Road or telephone 0751461767­1. We have loads of bargains, refreshmen­ts and lovely people to meet. Everyone most welcome. Admission only 50pence.

TUESDAY CAFE. Why not come along to our Tuesday Cafe at the Gap on Beveridge Street and enjoy cafeteria style food served, from 12:30pm.

SINGING FOR FUN CONCERT. On Wednesday, 20 June at 7.30pm, also in Holy Trinity, a concert by the Singing for Fun choir in aid of Kindu Trust and Hale, two Ethiopian charities. Tickets £5.

OPEN GARDENSSAT­URDAY 23 & SUNDAY, JUNE 24. We are really looking forward to welcoming you to beautiful Barrow for our annual Open Gardens event raising money for Rainbows Children’s Hospice.

We have got an exciting programme lined up with lots for all the family to see and do.

There are 27 lovely public and private gardens to explore—all of them different – a Grand Prize Draw, fantastic food, arts and crafts and in the Roundhouse on Beveridge Street staff and volunteers from Rainbows will be selling merchandis­e and raising awareness of this wonderful cause.

There will be plants at bargain prices including on a stall stocked by Barrow Gardening Club and fabulous garden crafts bird boxes and bug hotels –glass art -canal boat art and crafts for sale. We will have delicious food and refreshmen­ts to enjoy in lovely garden settings with artisan bread from Bröd and scrumptiou­s cakes baked by members of Barrow WI to take away.

The children are not forgotten either as we welcome our next generation of gardeners with special children’s competitio­n.

There is a frog hidden in each of the private gardens for them to find and to keep them interested as you walk between the gardens they could try and spot the fossils on the Barrow Fossil Trail or visit one of the parks and play areas.

It’s a great Barrow Event and we are really looking forward to welcoming you to our gardens. Entry to the gardens is by a 2 day programme on sale now from village shops or at the weekend from all the Open Gardens.

Priced £4 per adult - accompanie­d children under 14 free. PS If you are coming to Barrow by car there are six designated venues, the Methodist Church, Lime Tree Day Nursery, Barrow Library, The Boathouse field, the Co-op (time restricted) and the public carpark next to the railway bridge plus street parking.
