SILEBY METHODIST

CHURCH. It was a lively day on Thursday, June 7, at Café@ Chapel. Everyone enjoyed themselves and Martin, Therese and John and Betty put up the bunting ready for the Craft Fair on Saturday. Thank you so much for all your hard work.

Following the coffee morning, there was a Church Council Meeting and AGM which heard all the latest news about the occurrences at our Church and also elected the Officers.

Saturday, 9th June, was the Craft Fair which had been organised by Carol Suter. Carol had worked so hard to arrange for her fellow ‘crafters’ to bring along their finest and varied offerings.

These included knitted toys, cards, wonderful wooden items, beautiful and unusual hand-made bags, aprons, cushions etc. and jewellery as well as a Rainbows stall.

Carol’s husband, Brian worked so hard in the Kitchen, serving delicious refreshments, ably assisted by Ann and Betty ran the raffle. Thank you all so much for all your efforts.

Unfortunately there were few folk who attended but that is the way things go isn’t it? Still, we are so grateful to the people who came along and supported us.

On Sunday, June 10, at 10.45am, Rev Hedley Cousin was our preacher. This was a Communion Service. Hedley’s sermon considered what he described as the ‘shocking event’ when Jesus apparently disowned his mother and siblings. Of course he didn’t but instead asked ‘who is my Mother, brother, sisters?’

He wanted to emphasise that everyone is and should be treated with love and kindness.

There were lovely hymns to accompany this message and the last hymn ‘In Christ there is no east or west, in him no south or north, but one great fellowship of love throughout the whole wide world’ really summed up the message from God.

Thank you so much Hedley for this timely message and grateful thanks to your wife, Val, who came along to play the piano for us. Next week Karen Wormald is our preacher and se look forward seeing her again.
