Jack Burnell earns bronze medal in Portugal

LOUGHBOROUGH’S Jack Burnell has won a bronze medal in the FINA Marathon swimming World Series in Setubal, Portugal.

Burnell completed the 10km behind Hungary’s Kristof Rasovszky and Italian Mario Sanzullo.

In a change to his usual tactics he stayed at the back in the early laps, positioning himself in eighth for the last lap, overtaking Olympic champion Ferry Weertman in the final stretch to take the bronze.

It’s his second medal of the series following a silver in the Seychelles in May.
