Convincing win for Wymeswold over neighbours

-

WYMESWOLD made it four wins in a row with a convincing six-wicket win over near-neighbours Sutton Bonington in Division E of the South Notts Cricket League.

The visitors won the toss and chose to bat first, making good progress as opener Dave Appleby hit 30 to see his side reach 52 for 1 in just 10 overs.

Then spinner Jack Shelton stuck again, this time taking 3 for 27 in 12 overs and two runouts did not help Sutton’s cause. Dan Barry polished off the tail with 2 for 24 and the visitors were all-out for 115 in the 40th over.

In reply skipper Rob Pitman made 23 and then Wymeswold lost two quick wickets.

However Tom Warne (39no) and Sam Whowell (11no) steered the Wolds side home in the 30th over for the loss of four wickets.

Meanwhile in Division L of the league, Rich Bowley starred with the bat hitting 63 as Wymeswold’s second team reached 147 for 7 from 40 overs in their game at Caythorpe 4ths.

The home side looked on target for the win, but in a thrilling finish late wickets from Tim Clamp (3 for 31) and Steve Alexander (3 for 33) saw the Notts side bowled out for 138 in the last over to record a nine run with for Wymeswold 2nds.
