Students given Royal Navy insight
LOUGHBOROUGH College Public Services students have been gaining a first hand insight into serving across the world with the Royal Navy Reserves.
During a packed day with HMS Sherwood, the 16-strong group heard about exciting opportunities to join ships all over the world and were offered a glimpse of training for a range of scenarios, including emergency recovery and self-defence.
Public Services lecturer Anthony Louch said: “Our students got hands on with on board recovery equipment for casualties like life rafts and rigid inflatables and were taken through first aid instruction.
“They were given lessons in baton defence techniques and were shown some weaponry. They also spoke to volunteers and officers about their positive experiences as well as the challenges they face.”
