Please re-site this bus shelter

RE: ‘ILL-DESIGNED and ill-sited Bus Shelters’

I refer to the letter ‘the bus shelters are atrocious’ in the Loughborough Echo, May, 30.

I wholeheartedly endorse the views of your reader regarding the design of bus shelters in Lemyngton Street which are not only illdesigned but also are ill-placed directly in front of my community centre, Geeta Bhawan.

With the construction of the relief road, we have already lost the valuable parking spaces which we could use in the evenings and on Sunday functions when the community centre is heavily used.

To add insult to injury, the bus shelters were erected right in front of our entrance.

At times, it has caused a lot of

inconvenience for our attendees as the door is often blocked by people waiting for the buses seeking protection from rain and wind.

The blockage severely compromises the safety and security of the centre as the access to the premises is unrestricted. The strangers are often spotted walk-

ing inside asking for the use of toilets.

Filthy litter left in the doorway is another hazard we are to deal with regularly. God forbid, if there is an emergency and the premises are to be vacated, the obstructed exits are impediment for the evacuation and thus don’t conform to the Fire Regulations.

If the authorities do consider to replace the bus shelters, I earnestly request them also to consider re-siting the bus stop away from our entrance, say in front of the Rushes in Fennel Street.

Dr Siri Ram Chhabra Hon. Secretary Geeta Bhawan
