Award for Artistic Merit launched by arts club
CHARNWOOD Drawing and Painting launched the Award for Artistic Merit at the club’s first art exhibition of 2018 which was held at Woodhouse Eaves.
The exhibition was opened by the Mayor and the Mayoress of Charnwood. Called the ‘Alan Dorrell Award’ after a founding member of the club, the award encourages budding local artists to develop their skills.
“It will be an annual event,” said club chair, David Chaplin.
The exhibition attracted a large number of visitors and featured more than 80 artworks all painted by amateur artists in various media from oils and watercolours to acrylics and pastels. The mayor complimented the club on the high standard of entries and said that she looked forward to the next exhibition which will be held at Loughborough Library later this year.
The club is looking for new members and budding artists young and old who would like to brush up on their painting skills are most welcome to come along to the club’s regular demonstration eve- nings which are held the fourth Tuesday of each month.
The next demonstration will be on Tuesday, June 26, from 7pm to 9pm when accomplished Leicestershire artist Amanda Jackson will be at Woodbrook Vale School, Grasmere Road, Loughborough. Amanda will show how human
figures can provide colourful and exciting subjects especially when dancing.
