School wins £26k for LED lighting

-

ENERGY costs in a Loughborough school are set to be slashed thanks to an initiative which provides Government funding to improve energy efficiency, reduce carbon emissions and lower energy bills.

Following a bid submitted by Academies Enterprise Trust (AET) which sponsors, Beacon Primary Academy in Woodthorpe Road, the school has been awarded £26,000 which will help see over 400 LED light replacement fittings installed during the summer holiday period.

The trust says that this will deliver estimated savings of over £7,000 in electricity costs every year, improve lighting levels throughout the academy, as well as reduce CO2 emission levels by over 25 tonnes per annum.

Julian Drinkall, CEO for Academies Enterprise Trust, said: “At a time when school budgets are under significant pressure it can be very challenging to find the money to deliver cost savings whilst also considerably improving the school environment.

“I am delighted that we have been able work with Beacon Academy and secure Government financial support to make this a reality in time for the new school year.”

Mrs Louise Bussell, principal at Beacon Academy added: “The energy benefits of the new lighting reflects our pupils’ passion for thinking about the environment. Our children are committed to making the world a better place.”
