Arrests made in knife crime operation
NINE people have been arrested by Leicestershire Police as part of a four-day enforcement campaign to tackle knife crime in Charnwood.
Op Viceroy ran from Friday, June 13, to Sunday, June 16, across Loughborough and the surrounding area as part of ongoing enforcement work.
Among those arrested was 21-year-old Jason Mumford of Mellerstain Walk in Leicester who was charged with possession of drugs with intent to supply. Officers discovered what’s believed to be heroin and cocaine in a vehicle following a stop and search in Mountsorrel.
He has been remanded into custody until Monday, July 16, when he will appear at Leicester Crown Court.
A 56-year-old man, 17-year-old male, and 30-year-old woman were also arrested from an address in Knightthorpe Road, Loughborough, in connection with an earlier theft from a property in the town.
Officers also confiscated a large hunting knife at the same address.
All three have been released under investigation.
A further three were arrested for being wanted on warrant and have now been released. Another was arrested for store theft and one other for affray. They have also been released under investigation.
Sergeant Glen Iceton, knife crime coordinator and tactical lead for stop and search, said: “This was a successful campaign.
“Our aim is to tackle the use of knives and other associated crimes and led to nine arrests.
“We have managed to take a large quantity of drugs off the streets and are carrying out a number of other important investigations.”
