Phoenix Pegasus victorious in top of the table clash

LEADERS in the Loughborou­gh & District Bowls League Monday Division 1 East Leake Willows hosted second in the table Phoenix Pegasus and with both teams having to field weakened sides, it gave the opportunit­y for other squad players to play and, as a result of a good 56-46 (8-0) win by the visitors, Pegasus take over the mantle at the top of the division.

Shepshed Rams move up in to second place courtesy of an away win 61-39 (6-2) at Queens Park Queens level on points with Syston Fosseway in third who had an emphatic 74-40 (8-0) home victory against Thringston­e Woodpecker­s. Quorn Weavels move off the bottom following their 54-49 (5-3) home win against Wymeswold Wolds.

Pick of the results in Division 2 was at Syston where leaders White Plum went down 41-61 (2-6) to an improving St Margaret’s Saints whilst St Margaret’s other side, Maggies beat local rivals Belgrave Cygnets 56-49 (6-2). Brush Peregrines continue to struggle this week going down 33-52 (0-8) on their travels to Birstall Lighthouse whilst Birstall Sands picked up valuable points on their visit to Kegworth with a comfortabl­e 66-50 (6-2) win.

Rothley Crusaders retain their top slot in Division 3 despite losing 52-54 (2-6) at Greenfield­s Badgers who now move into third place behind Sutton Bonington Riversider­s who defeated Soar Valley Trent 67-35 (8-0). Sileby Swallows took a step further away from the bottom with a sound 64-29 (6-2) win at Brush Hawks.

Surprise result in Division 4 was the Greenfield Foxes comfortabl­e away win 63-42 (8-0) at Syston Green & Royals. The top two teams Shepshed Lambs and Wymeswold Steamers both had good wins, Lambs 61-54 (6-2) at Belgrave Ringers and Steamers 62-43 (8-0) at home against Fosseway Romans.

In the Thursday League Division 1 it was top versus bottom with last week’s leaders Thringston­e Rangers relinquish­ing the top slot after a surprising 57-74 (3-5) defeat at the hands of Brush Eagles. Syston Fosseway take over the mantle at the top with a convincing 70-41 (10-0) win at New Lount Hares whilst Shepshed North keep up the pressure winning a close game at home to Wymeswold 72-69 (6-4).

Probably the closest game of the day was in Division 2 at East Leake where hosts Willows went down 64-65 (5-5) to Quorn Millers. Loughborou­gh Greenfield­s stumbled in their quest for the top going down 64-69 (4-6) to visitors Phoenix Flyers, whilst the battle at the bottom between St Margaret’s Maggies and Queens Park Carilloner­s went to Maggies 79-66 (8-2).

Sileby Swifts continue to dominate in Division 3 with an emphatic 105-51 (8-2) win at Rothley Knights with Sutton Bonington keeping up the chase after their 76-60 (10-0) victory at home to Shepshed South.

The clash of the Soar Valley teams was won by Soar Valley with a comfortabl­e 80-47 (9-1) score line over fellow club mates Valoars.

Greenfield­s were the victors in their game with Quorn at Holt Drive in the Ladies Friday evening league, the host winning 39-35 (4-2).

Kevin Taylor of Sileby BC moves into the next round of the Loughborou­gh and District Champion of Champions courtesy of a walk over and will now have a home tie against Brian Twist from East Leake BC.
