CHARNWOOD College Riders are in basketball action in Serbia this week, representing England at the International School Sports Federation 3×3 Championships.

The Riders, part of the David Ross Education Trust and Leicester Riders Pathway, are in action from June 24-29 in Belgrade in both the men’s and women’s events, after winning the WEABL and EABL 3×3 Championships for the right to represent England in the tournament.

It will be the first time that the Charnwood College Boys will be a part of the competition, the Women however took third place in the competition two seasons ago in Tallin, Estonia and also competed in the World 5v5 Championships last summer.

Girl’s head coach Krumesh Patel is looking forward to the event.

“To attend the ISF World 3×3 championships back to back is an incredible achievement. The last time the group did incredible in Estonia by finishing third in the world and the recent group are coming off being WEABL National 3×3 champions so we are excited to test ourselves against the world once

again.

“The event is really well organised, and the addition of culture day makes it a great experience to learn from and about other countries. No doubt will be another great experience for the program.”

Head Coach Will Maynard is pleased for the boys’ first appearance in the competition.

“It’s a great opportunity for the

boys to be involved in the World Championship 3v3 tournament.

“It’s a real eye opener for players to be able to compete in a different country and playing in a different style than they are normally used to. Not many players have this opportunity which allows them to travel the world so they should embrace it with open arms and make the most of the situation.”
