SHEPSHED Foodbank is celebrating after being loaned a van to help volunteers collect food donations and buy additional supplies when necessary.

The van has been loaned to the charity by BT Fleet in Leicester which is also going to tax, MOT and service the vehicle for the foodbank.

Foodbank chairman Glennis Wilcox said she was overwhelmed by the news as the charity had been looking to secure a vehicle to help with its work.

“This is fantastic news. We really are very grateful to Jim Lawrence and everyone at BT Fleet who have agreed to tax, Mot and service the van for us.

“It will make collecting food donations and buying additional supplies so much easier and my car can now have a well-earned rest!“

She also revealed the foodbank had secured a grant from Loughborough University and together with two very generous anonymous cash donations and a fund-raising Indian meal held at the Spice Lounge in Shepshed, they are now able to insure the vehicle for the next three years.

The foodbank is currently handing out more than 45 food parcels a week to single people, couples, families with young children and pensioners.

Anyone wishing to help in any way can contact the Foodbank on 07594639668 or by email at shepshedfoodbank@gmail.com
