-

THE famous BBC TV programme Gardeners’ World paid a visit to the town to interview Loughborough’s Mr Bloom, Harry Cook.

Harry, renowned for his wonderful flower displays at his Forest Road home, was chosen by the prestigious programme for a special interview.

The camera crew also visited Mountfields Lodge School to film Harry talking about his work in school and the local community.

Harry Cook is an award-winning Loughborough in Bloom gardener and is well known for his work with other volunteers, transforming ‘The Green Belt’ and making it a haven for wildlife, fairies and flowers.

Motorists and pedestrians will also know him for his stunning floral displays outside his house and on the Epinal Way/Forest Road roundabout – something Gardeners’ World were keen to talk about.

A spokesperson for the school told the Echo: “He has supported Mountfields Lodge for many years, planting and maintaining hanging baskets, borders and vegetable plots in their extensive grounds.

“The children are also incredibly grateful to Mr Cook for transforming their walk to school over the years. The pedestrian entrance to the local school features wildlife areas, a fairy trail and willow dome seating.

“A selection of Year 1 and Year 5 pupils were excited to host Gardeners’ World in their grounds as they planted with Mr Cook.

“Children at Mountfields Lodge talked to the BBC show about the produce that they grow and use in their school lunches.

“The children were also proud to showcase the 10 boots they planted as part of the art insulation ‘Tommy’, which featured 100 military boots planted with flowers to mark Armed Forces Day.”

The episode featuring Mountfields Lodge and Mr Cook is scheduled to air next Wednesday, July 18, at 8pm on BBC2.
