Parish council chairman Rob Ereminowicz in a report presented to the village before his retirement at this year’s annual parish meeting , said the the parish council contacted Notts County Council and they thought that the idea was really good.
“However for the project to go ahead NCC who own the bus stop said that we as a parish council would have to take on the upkeep and maintenance of the bus shelter. We have since taken on the bus shelter and the school will start the book/ swap library in September.”
In is report, Coun. Ereminowicz said on the topic of bus shelters there was a new notice board on the Main Street bus shelter close to St Annes Lane.
The retiring chairman said in terms of the workings regarding Marlepit Hill street lights, all but one had been repaired and they also had a new grit bin situated on Marlepit Hill.
“We had a major water leak on the playing fields which was eventually fixed by contractors and was paid for through the Parish Council insurance. The cause was frost damage,” he said.
The old traveller’s site on the A6006 is he said, as far as they are aware, still earmarked to store fairground equipment.
The former chairman said for quite a while there have been ongoing problems with the sewers in the Village, particularly on Park Lane.
“Severn Trent management were called out as the situation with the sewers being blocked became a weekly occurrence. The Parish Council invited one of the senior managers to one of its parish council meetings and he outlined the surveys and inspections to be carried out in order to try and resolve the ongoing problems we face in the village regarding blockages and flooding. Cameras have already identified some problems and we are now waiting for feedback from Severn Trent. “
The chairman’s report said on the aspect of flooding in the village they had experienced problems with some parts of the village being flooded after persistent rainfalls.
“There are a number of factors which affect how the water drains away. This involves the cleaning and clearing of drains, dykes, ditches and culverts.
The mapping of these and establishing who has responsibility for them is something that is presently on the Parish Council’s agenda. We will be working with the Network Rail, Severn Trent, NCC, farmers and Local environment agencies to map out who is responsible for what and for them to be proactive in carrying out their obligations for clearing and jetting.”
The report said that work carried out on resurfacing Station Road by patching up areas that were in bad state of repair and that this had improved the road.
VERGE PARKING TICKETS. Two vehicles owners in Sutton Bonington have been handed parking contravention tickets as the parish council push for the number of incidents of parking on roadside verges are reduced and eventually eliminated.
The parish council, following receipt of complaints over the damage being caused to the verges, asked for action by the Notts County Council parking enforcement officer and have been informed the officer had visited the site and has issued two parking contravention notices.
Members of the council have been told the site is to remain on the Parking Enforcement hot spot list and random visits will take place.
Concern was expressed at the council meeting that despite tickets being issued two vehicles were continuing to park on the verge.
It has been suggested that the parish council level and reseed the verge and erect signage informing residents of the reseeding and asking them not to park on the verge.
DON’T WASH YOUR BOOTS IN THE SHOWERS. Footballers using the pavilion changing rooms at Sutton Bonington are being told they should not wash their boots in the showers after their games.
The parish council have said that the showers are to be pressure washed and as a result it has been agreed that signage be erected stating ‘No footwear to be washed in the showers. Clubs to be fined £50 should the notice be breached’. The clerk Jenny Faulks is arranging for the sign to be made and erected.
SATISFACTION SURVEY. Residents in Sutton Bonington are being invited to take part in a Rushcliffe Residents’ Satisfaction Survey which gives them a chance to have their say on the council’s services and how they feel as a resident living in Rushcliffe, be it on the southern most end of the area and near to the Leicestershire border.
The survey gives residents the opportunity to tell the council what they think about their services.
The council say it doesn’t matter if a respondent has only just moved into the area, or if they don’t pay Council Tax, because it is important that they hear everybody’s views so that they can put the resources where they really matter.
All answers will be treated in the strictest confidence and will only be used to monitor the Council’s services.
The survey can be completed on online at https://www.surveymonkey. co.uk/r/RBCresidents2018

SCHOOL BUILDING WORK PLANNED. Sutton Bonington‘s Primary School is expecting to have some building works carried out in the next 18 months.
Head teacher Mark Brumwell says although they are awaiting the final approval from the Notts County Council feels it is highly likely that the current Year 6 and Owls building will be removed and replaced with an improved facility at some point in the next year/18 months.
“This will be at no cost to the school, but would be part of the LA’s ongoing capital improvement programme. Similarly, the LA are also funding the addition of a hygiene suite with a disabled toilet. This will be built adjacent to the room between the hall and Classes 2 and 3, in the space towards the outdoor stage.”
Mr Brumwell says the build time for this is approximately 10 weeks. He says although it’s never ideal to have construction work going on during term time, it’s been timed this way so that the disruption is at the end of this school year, rather than the start of a new one in September. An area of the playground is being fenced off for the last few weeks of term, in order to accommodate the site office and other facilities. Access round the back of the school is also affected, as this will be the route that has to be used to move equipment and materials to and from the site.
The headmaster says he is liaising on a daily basis with the project manager on site to try to minimise any disruption, and their priority is to ensure the safety of the children at all times during the works.
