Quorn ease their relegation fears with home victory

-

AFTER falling just five run short in the chase against Enderby last week, Quorn, with only one victory this season, were keen to try to alleviate relegation worries, as Highfield Rangers visited Cave’s field.

Highfield won the toss and with the wicket looking firm and flat, elected to bat first. Andy Stovel made the initial breakthrough, when wicket-keeper, Richard Cooper, pulled off a lightning legside stumping to dismiss S Joseph.

With Taj Singh standing firm, the Highfield top order seemed unable to deal with Stovel’s swing and accuracy.

Stovel punished Highfield for some injudicious shot selection taking 4-11, as the visitors slumped to 22-4. Singh (38) could only look on helplessly, as his teammates continued to play with careless abandon.

Jack Child’s teasing seamers were rewarded with figures of 4-8.

Finally, Singh’s patience snapped as he unwisely chose to sweep Jon Reynolds (1-13), to be ninth man out, with the score just 57. The very next ball, Child wrapped up the innings after just 23.1 overs.

With England’s World Cup quarter-final starting, Quorn were in no mood to waste any time chasing down the required runs. Will Huish larruped a 17-ball 21 before becoming Quorn’s only casualty.

This left Andy Kenneth (26 not out) and Richard Sharp (2 not out) to knock off the remaining 12 runs as Quorn romped home in just 8.4 overs.

The more positive results of the last two weeks, will hopefully give Quorn some confidence, as they visit Sileby town next week.

They know another win could drag them out of relegation zone.
