A FESTIVAL celebrating chamber music and arts in the East Midlands is coming to Nottingham to celebrate the city’s talents.

Nottingham Chamber Music Festival will bring together some of the best local, national and international musicians and artists for a huge celebration stretching across July 13 until July 15.

Konya Kanneh-Mason will be opening the festival on July 13 with a concert at Nottingham High School Recital Hall. She’ll be performing with Villiers Quartet, bringing a celebration of the music of Mendelssohn, Schumann, and the British composer William Sterndale Bennett.

Konya is the equally talented younger sister of Sheku KannehMason, who gained international acclaim in May after performing at the royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

Aged just 17, Konya was crowned 2017’s Nottingham Young Musician of the Year and plays both the violin and piano. She is currently studying piano at the Royal Academy of Music Junior College and counts Sir Elton John as one of her biggest fans, while also benefitting from the Sir Elton John Scholarship.

Other events on offer at the Nottingham Chamber Music Festival include City of Legends, in which SCAW Duo (bass clarinet player Sarah Watts and pianist Antony Clare) will join Nottingham poet Andrew Graves to bring music and poetry to life at Nottingham High School.

The festival will also be hosting a summer music party with Festival Tea and ChamberPlay! on July 15, where budding musicians are encouraged to bring along their instruments informally play through chamber music favourites with other passionate musicians amid refreshments.

Also on the bill is Le Page Ensemble at Delilah Fine Foods, which will bring together music and the art of wine tasting at hotspot, Delilah Fine Foods.

Villiers Quartet will return for another show on July 15 to close out the festival with the finale concert.

Konya Kanneh-Mason will be performing on July 13 at 7:30pm at Nottingham High School Recital Hall.

Tickets for the concert and the other events on offer, including a festival weekend pass and a Sunday concert pass, are available from nottchamberfest.com or in person at Nottingham Tourism Centre in the Council House on Smithy Row.
