Top three sides in Monday Division One all slip to surprise defeats

THE top three sides in the Loughborou­gh & District Bowls League Monday Division 1 all lost their games this week, leaders Phoenix Pegasus suffered a 46-65 (0-8) home defeat at the hands of Queens Park Queens, Shepshed Rams went down 44-51 (2-6) at Wymeswold Wolds whilst Syston Fosseway were beaten at home in a very close match 51-53 (2-6) by East Leake Willows.

The two bottom sides met at Thringston­e where hosts Woodpecker­s were 56-42 (8-0) victors against Quorn Weavels.

In Division 2 St Margaret’s Saints had a comfortabl­e 63-37 (8-0) win at home to bottom club Brush Peregrines whilst their other team Maggies also had a good win on their travels, defeating Kegworth 54-42 (6-2) to keep up with the chasing pack.

Syston White Plum and Birstall Sands had an excellent game at Syston with the visitors just taking the game 51-50 (6-2).

Greenfield­s Badgers continue to top Division 3 after they took all the points in a 60-30 (8-0) win on their visit to Bowling Green Way where hosts Phoenix Kingfisher­s could only field two rinks.

Sutton Bonington Riversider­s dropped valuable points in their chase for the title, going down 38-42 (2-6) at home to Sileby Swallows whilst strugglers Brush Hawks went down 46-52 (2-6) against visitors Rothley Crusaders.

It was top two versus bottom two in Division 4 with leaders Wymeswold Steamers continuing their winning streak with a 58-39 (8-0) win at Greenfield­s Foxes and Soar Valley Tay taking all the points in a 48-35 (8-0) victory at bottom club Belgrave Ringers. Syston Green & Royals had a good win at Shepshed where they defeated hosts Lambs 53-50 (6-2) in a very tight game.

Shepshed North move back to the top of the Thursday Division 1 table after a surprising 56-78 (0-10) defeat for Syston Fosseway at home to Thringston­e Rangers, North having won their match against Brush Eagles 77-60 (6-4). New Lount Hares got back to winning ways with a very good 77-43 (8-2) results at home against Wymeswold.

Bottom side in Division 2 Queens Park Carilloner­s produced the shock of the day despite losing their game against leaders East Leake Willows they took the majority of the points in a 65-70 (6-4) score line allowing second placed Loughborou­gh Greenfield­s to close the gap at the top to five points after they defeated Quorn Millers 74-55 (8-2) at Holt Drive. Phoenix Flyers are also only five points behind the leaders after their comfortabl­e 84-48 (8-2) home win against St Margaret’s Maggies.

Division 3 leaders Sileby Swifts travelled to second placed Kegworth and came out 68-55 (6-4) victors in a close game to extend their lead to 18 points. Third placed Sutton Bonington moved to within one point of Kegworth after they defeated Soar Valley Valoars 78-52 (8-2).

Thringston­e were the winners of the Loughborou­gh & District BA Hartopp Cup with +31 shots followed by Brush six shots behind on +25. The full result was: Thringston­e +31 shots, Brush +25, Queens Park +12, Phoenix +11, Greenfield­s -2, Sileby -13, Wymeswold -24, Quorn -40.

Following a recount of the results for the Jonson Cup, Queens Park were the winners with +25 shots followed by Brush with +24. Revised full result is: Queens Park +25, Brush +24, Thringston­e +4, Wymeswold +1, Phoenix -2, Greenfield­s -21, Sileby -31.
