Group toasts its first year

-

THE Quorn Local History

Group is celebrating its first very successful year. The chair, Paul Goodman said: “When Sue Templeman and I first discussed the idea of a history group for Quorn we never imagined that within a year the group would have over 50 members and will have completed a series of very successful walks, presentations and visits’.

The group is now progressing with several projects which include:

• Oral History – an important project aimed at gathering memories from Quorns senior residents,

• Field Walking – this is the chance to see if the answer really is in the soil as the ploughed fields are surveyed for artefacts,

• Great War Armistice commemorations – a project to ensure Quorn commemorates this important event.

These or just a few of the projects on offer so if you would like to join any of these projects you would be very welcome.

Also, there some great presentations lined up in the Village Hall and open to all. Firstly, on Sunday, September 30, at 7pm there is a special event when we are pleased to welcome Stephen Taylor, a highly experienced TV presenter and chairman of the WW2 Relic Retrieval & Preservation Group (RRPG) who will be presenting the recent History Channel television programme ‘WW2 Treasure Hunters - The making of the ‘82nd Airborne and German POWS’ the episode filmed in Quorn.

As well as an introduction to the episode and the showing. Some of the artefacts found will be on show and there will be time for questions.

Then, on Monday, October 22, a special Halloween event ‘’ The Wise Woman: Spells and Witchcraft’’ is presented by Chris Carr.

Chris studied witchcraft as part of her University studies and she has taken that study further. Much of her research is incorporated into this talk which should not be missed! Although, it may not be appropriate for those of a ’nervous disposition’!
