Villagers getting ready for scarecrow festival

NEWTOWN Linford is getting ready for its annual Scarecrow Festival weekend which is set to take place later this month.

Event organisers promise a wide range of activities throughout the weekend culminatin­g in a special prize giving ceremony for the best scarecrow.

The fun takes place on September 29 and September 30 and an array of Scarecrows will be on display in the village throughout the weekend, with a map to guide people around the village on its scarecrow trail available to purchase for 50p.

An event spokesman said: “There will be lots of exciting things happening over the whole weekend including Newtown Linford Primary School’s annual fete on Saturday from 11am–3pm and bellringin­g at All Saints Church from 2.30pm-5pm.

“On Sunday, there will be Morris Dancing outside The Linford from 1.30pm and craft stalls and refreshmen­ts at the village hall from 11am-4pm.

“Vote for your favourite scarecrow and come to the prize giving ceremony taking place on Sunday at 4pm in the Village Hall when our ever popular raffle will also be drawn.”

• All proceeds from the festival will go to Newtown Linford Primary School.
