No witnesses have come forward to police

AN A-LEVEL student spent three days in a coma with a serious head injury after an attack in Loughborough.

Ridwaan Mohamed, 17, was attacked on Friday, May 11, in Radmoor Road, Loughborough, as he left Loughborough College at 1.20pm.

The incident has left him with memory problems and meant he was unable to take his A-level exams.

He says the college’s actions have made it difficult for him to continue his studies.

He said: “There were some people waiting outside the college looking for a boy with curly hair and they assumed it was me.

“There was a group of 20 to 30 people in the street and I was attacked by several people.

“They trapped me and I had no way out.

“I was hit in the back of the head and went into a coma then woke up in hospital.”

Ridwaan’s dad Ahmed said: “The case was closed. I was told by the detectives they had no witnesses or CCTV to do anything about it.”

Five males aged 16, 18, 18, 19 and 20 were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder but were later released.

A spokesman for Leicestershire Police said: “We have appealed for witnesses but none have come forward and we have studied CCTV.

“There were arrests made but no one was charged. The victim knows it’s not going any further.”

Ridwaan had been planning to go to university next year but says he was unable to complete his A-levels because he was let down by Loughborough College.

He said that after he woke up from his coma the college staff told him he would be able to continue his studies.

But after he was unable to take all his exams - due to memory problems - they changed their mind.

He said his form tutor had also promised to write him a reference so he could try to continue his studies elsewhere but after two weeks, with the new school term now underway, he still had no reference.

He said: “The staff assured me a place on the course before and said they’d always support me.

“I was studying maths, physics and chemistry A-levels when the attack happened and I’d planned to finish them and go to university.

“When I went to the enrolment day during the summer holidays the deputy head said she couldn’t accept me on the course because I hadn’t done the exams.

“I only managed to take one biology exam last term because I’d just got out of hospital not long before and was still having memory problems.”

He was in hospital for a total of 12 days during the final weeks of his first year studying A-levels.

Ridwaan’s father, Ahmed, said: “They promised me they would support him and look after him but they don’t want to know him now.

“We’re getting really desperate because the term has started.”

Ridwaan has applied to join courses at three other sixth-form colleges but said they all refused to allow him to study with them because Loughborough College had not provided a reference.

A Loughborough College spokesperson said: “Loughborough College does not comment on the cases of individual students.” Ridwaan now fears he will be unable to go to university next year.
