Good Shepherd Church celebrates its 80th anniversary
LOUGHBOROUGH’S Good Shepherd Church has spent the last few months celebrating 80 years of worship and serving the local community on the south side of Loughborough.
Originally a small worshipping community, started by a group from Emmanuel Church met in the Isolation Hospital that was on Ling Road (now Epinal Way) until the current building was completed in 1938.
The Parish of Shelthorpe was established on May 30, 1969 and the name changed to the Good Shepherd Church, Loughborough on October 2, 1979 when the Church was consecrated.
And now on Sunday, September 30, the church says it would like to invite everyone to a special Thanksgiving Service with an opportunity to share memories together afterwards.
Reverend Sue Willetts, the current vicar said: “We hope that lots of people who have been connected in some way with the church in the past, perhaps married or christened in the church, been a member of the choir, or the Sunday school, the Stage Group or the Women’s Friendly (now Wednesday Friendly), will join us to celebrate the past, the present and look forward to the future of the church as it enters a new exciting phase of ministry.
“We are looking forward to working in partnership with Emmanuel Parish, to encourage and connect people in the newer and ‘almost built’ housing estates that are growing in this part of the town.
“It’s exciting to think that as we do this together we are continuing to explore ways to minister to and serve our local community just as our predecessors did in 1938.’
The special Thanksgiving Service will start at 10am at the Good Shepherd Church on Park Road, and will last about 45 minutes before there will be a chance to share memories, tea, coffee and cake.
