Family fun day is welcome cash booster for Steps

-

A FAMILY fun day held in Loughborough has boosted funds for a local charity.

Organised by student accommodation provider Unite Students, the event was held in aid of charity Steps and featured fairground rides, cake stalls and performances by local groups. Visitors donated £585 to the cause, and that total was then charity matched by Unite Students to make the total amount raised £1,170.

Steps, a Shepshed-based charity, provides conductive education to children with motor disorders such as cerebral palsy and Down’s syndrome. The donations will help the charity to continue to provide free support to the special children who attend Steps as well as their families.

The event was held at Harry French Halls in Ashby Road, Loughborough in August.

Jennifer Blockley, charity lead for Loughborough, Unite Students, said: “It was a team effort. Staff from Unite Students in Loughborough all chipped in to help this event to be a great success.

“The fun day raised vital funds for the charity Steps, which offers a great support to local families. The fun day organised by Unite Students in Loughborough. Fitness guru Rosemary Conley is pictured in the centre.

“We endeavour to continue to support Steps and will be assisting them with their ‘A Question of Brains’ event to be held at the Leicester Tigers on October 9.”

Rosemary Conley, patron of Steps, said: “This was such a great event! There was lots to do and everyone really enjoyed themselves.

“The staff at Unite worked so hard to make this family fun day really special

and I was amazed at how much money they raised. A massive thank you to everyone involved and to the company, Unite, for match-funding the money raised.

“On behalf of Steps, a big thank you to everyone!”
